Directed (and written) by Rebecca Miller, Grand Army Entertainment, 2009. Starring Robin Wright, Alan Arkin, Winona Ryder, Blake Lively, Julianne Moore and Keanu Reeves.
Genre: Drama, Romance.
Question: Did you ever want to understand why a young woman falls for an older man? Sometimes I ponder this but "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" answers that question - in a quirky and fun way.
One of my last rentals from Blockbuster turned out to be a cute story. So many stars in one movie that I never heard of - have you? Geesh- Someone from every generation but I never saw a trailer, preview or an ad for this one. Just saw it on the shelf and thought, "Okay, why not?"
It stars Robin Wright, who I used to watch in Santa Barbara when I was back in high school - way before "Princess Bride". She embodies a completely different character, one that I have ever seen her play before. She is Pippa Lee. She is the one married to an older man played by Alan Arkin.
The story has her look back to her past while her present seems to be falling apart. There are some funny scenes and some not so funny - on purpose. "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" is witty and incisive. Perhaps it wasn't mainstream enough to attract a lot of viewers but I enjoyed this film.
Rebecca Miller adapted her novel of the same name which came out in 2009.
My favorite thing: Has to be some of quick-witted lines the main character said.
My least favorite thing: Nothing is coming to mind right now - Maybe the casting of Julianne Moore. I love her but it was such a small part. I was curious as to why.
Possibility of a sequel? Not really.
Did the previews show too much? I never saw one.
